PEOPLE

Trevor Gillum, PhD, FACSM

Professor

My research agenda centers on the crossroads of exercise immunology and exercise in extreme environments. Of particular interest is the heat shock protein family, acclimation, and cross tolerance.  More importantly, I enjoy all things Oklahoma, especially Sooner Football.

Jong-Kyung Kim, PhD

Professor

My primary research interests focus on the study of the effects of exercise on autonomic control of the cardiovascular system and vasculature changes related to prehypertension, exercise, and nutrition supplementation in humans. I am excited about what I have observed and I am expecting the clinical implications of my studies to benefit patients, clinicians, and other researchers. I also challenge my students to identify the underlying assumptions behind the theories and concepts presented. It is satisfying to see students develop creative and critical thinking through this teaching approach. My hobby is golfing.

Bill Boyer, PhD, FACSM

Associate Professor

My primary research interest is centered around the effect modification of race-ethnicity on the dose-response relationship between physical activity and diabetes risk/diabetes-related mortality. My primary methodological approach to examining this relationship is through secondary data methods using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. Other research interests include examining the effects of different activities on insulin resistance, accelerometer-derived physical activity and diabetes-related risk factors, and physical activity patterns in high-risk populations.
